2012 Goodie Bag

The New Year is on its way, and for many of us it is a time to reflect on where we are, as well as determine where we wish to go. Bringing in the New Year with a mind to change is our custom, but this year I’d like to encourage you to think of a few positive things that are already rolling in 2011 that you wish to bring into 2012. What would I like to bring? Here’s what’s in my 2012 Goodie Bag:

Focus-Keep what you want for your life within your line of sight at all times, find out what you need to make it happen, and set a reasonable timeline to do it

Enjoy Life-Work hard, but play hard too. No matter how old you are, it is good to be in touch with the part of you that lets you breathe.

Make Peace with Imperfection-I’m not perfect. You’re not perfect. Life’s not perfect. It’s too much work to expect it, so I am going to leave it alone and let God handle that.

Keep It Moving-As one of my friends always says, “It is what it is.” Don’t get stuck asking why, why not, what is it, and what ain’t it. See things for what they are and govern yourself accordingly.

Dream Big-If you’re a writer, you can win a Pulitzer. A humanitarian? Why not a Nobel Prize? Want to be a doctor? You can find a cure for something. Big dreams don’t just happen to “other” people; they are possible for all of us. If we can learn to remove fear out of our lives and stop telling ourselves what we can’t do, and focus more on what we can do, we may be pleasantly surprised at where we may wind up.

Keep dreaming, keep living, keep breathing. Something great is bound to happen…TODAY.

    • Hello! So nice to hear things are going well. I definitely encourage you to go after the Master’s. Try to get a teaching assistantship so you can have some experience on the college level. Happy New Year to you!!

  4. Hi Nikkele, Have not spoken to you in a while.First I want to wish you all the best for the New Year. Just checking my mail for the first time in a week.I like your thoughtful , and practical ideas for the New Year . Everything you write is always good advice and thought provoking. I definitely stated out the New Year enjoying life with my family, a kind of mini gathering in West Palm Beach with relatives on Sunday. We had a great time together eating ,dancing, reminiscing and telling jokes.I have to work hard on some of the other ideas especially the one on imperfection.Felt I had to be perfect to please my Dad as a teen ,very hard to change , causes a lot of stress and the fear of failure. Yes I am dreaming bigger this year ,staying focused and yup I will keep it moving. It is what it is. One love

  5. Practical words of wisdom to live by in 2012. Check in with me at the end of the year so we can compare notes :) . Happy Healthy 2012 to you!

  6. Happy New Year! I put my goals down on paper. It is better to see them in black and white. Everyday I want to do something that goes toward the cause.

I like to think that I work hard. I’m learning to relax but some people keep irritating the flow and that irks me. I have expectations and if they are not met, I do feel disappointed at times. Strive for best. Onward and upward!

    • I agree about writing the vision and making it plain. Then you can run with it because you have an organized plan of action. Onward and upward is right!

  7. those words are worth following……. :) ….great thoughts …!!

  8. Excellent post for the start of a new years. Thanks for visiting my site!
